1.  SETTING UP A SITE IN AN FTP

Click the tab of the program you have decided to use:

CoreFTPFileZilaWeb Browser / CPanel

If this is your firstime using CoreFTP, the Site Manager Box should come up

  • If not, click the icon
  1. Click the “New Site” listing (if not already selected/blue)
  2. Fill in the information in the right side panel
    • Site Name: Anyhting that reminds you of the website (ex: Cari_Fletcher)
    • Host / IP / URL: cari-fletcher.com
    • Username: tronnornews
    • Password: FLETCH_1994-yrnycfm
    • Connection: FTP
    • Port: 21
    • Timeout: 60
    • Retries: 2
  3. Click “Connect”
  • A Certificate Information” box may come up, Click “Always Accept”

After that, lines will start scrolling in the Commands window/view and the site directorry should load/show in the right window/view

COREFTP LAYOUT

There are 4 main components to CoreFTP. These can be called windows or views

  1. Command(s) Log — Shows the process of loading & errors that may happen
  2. Local Files — Files & folders on your computer
  3. Website Directory — Files & folders uploaded to / stored on cari-fletcher.com
  4. Tranfer(s) Queue — The list of files being uploaded & their progress

Other Important Buttons:

  • Quick Connect Connect to the last site you loaded (yellow outline)
  • New Folder — Create a new folder in the (either) directory (yellow outline)
  • Folder Path(s) — Shows you what folder(s) you are in (blue outline)

  2. Click “Rename” & name it anyhting that reminds you of the website (ex: Cari_Fletcher)
  3. Fill in the information in the right side panel
    • Protocol: FTP
    • Host: cari-fletcher.com
    • Port: 21
    • encryption: Use explicit FTP over TLS if available
    • Logon Type: Normal
    • User: tronnornews
    • Password: FLETCH_1994-yrnycfm
  4. Click “Connect”
  • A Unknown Certificate” box may come up, Click “Always trust this certificate in future sessions”
 

After that, lines will start scrolling in the Commands window/view and the site directorry should load/show in the right window/view

FILEZILLA LAYOUT

There are 4 main components to FileZilla. These can be called windows or views

  1. Command(s) Log — Shows the process of loading & errors that may happen
  2. Local Files — Files & folders on your computer
  3. Website Directory — Files & folders uploaded to / stored on cari-fletcher.com
  4. Tranfer(s) Queue — The list of files being uploaded & their progress

Other Important Buttons:

  • File Maganger/Quick Connect Click the icon to open the site manager box OR click the arrow & click the site name to connect. (yellow outline)
  • Folder Path(s) — Shows you what folder(s) you are in (blue outline)
  • New Folder — Right click in (either) directory window & click “Create directory” OR “Create directory and enter it”
  • If you don’t want to install a FTP client, you can upload via a web browser (Ex: Google Chrome, FireFox)
  1. Go to https://cari-fletcher.com/cpanel and login
    1. Username: tronnornews
    2. Password: FLETCH_1994-yrnycfm
  2. In the top left under FILES, click “File Manager”
  3. In the left side panel, click “public_html”

CPANEL FILE MANAGER LAYOUT

There are 4 main components to the CPanel File Manager

  1. Actions — The things you can do to folders & files (yellow outline)
    • + Folder: New folder
    • Copy: Copy folder or file
    • Move: move folder or file to new area in directory
    • Upload: Upload any type of file or zipped folder to the site directory
    • Download: Download any file or folder
    • X Delete: Delete any file or folder
    • Rename: Rename any file or folder
    • Edit: Edit any file
    • Compress: Make .zip folder
    • Extract: Unzip .zip folder
  2. Folders Path — Shows you where you are in the website directory (blue outline)
  3. Folder Tree — A tree of all of the folders on the website
  4. Website Directory — Files & folders uploaded to / stored on cari-fletcher.com

2.  UPLOAD VIA FTP

Click the tab of your chosen method (program or web):

CoreFTP OR FileZillaWeb Browser / CPanel
  • Enter / Go to any folder by double clicking

All files/folders are uploaded to public_html or www (same directory – different names), so make sure to enter those

These are the most used folders on the website:

  • Gallery — All images for the photo gallery (cari-fletcher.com/gallery)
  • Images — All images for the website [outside of the gallery] (cari-fletcher.com)
  • MusicHTML pages for links to all of Fletcher’s music
  • Podcasts — .mp3 (audio) files of the podcast shows that fletcher has been on
  • Videos — .mp4 (video) files of Fletcher
  • wp-admin — WordPress (main site) installation
  • wp-content — All WordPress files (themes, plugins, etc)
To Upload any file(s) or folders:

  1. From your local files (left), go to the location of what file(s)/folder(s) you want to upload
  2. From the website directory (right), go to the location of where you want to upload (to the website)
  3. From local files, Select the file(s)/folder(s) you want to upload
  4. Drag the selected file(s)/folder(s) over to the website directory (Left to Right)

  • Enter / Go to any folder by double clicking

To Upload any file(s) or folders:

  1. From the website directory (right), go to the location of where you want to upload (to the website)
  2. In the actions bar, click Upload” (A New Tab will open)
  3. Click “Select File” OR open your file explorer/finder
  4. In the File Explorer/Finder, go to the file(s)/folder(s) you want to upload
  5. Click “Open” OR Drag the file(s)/folders over
    • Progress bars for each upload will show (sucess or errors)
  6. Click Go back to..”
  7. From the 2nd actions bar, Reload the directory to see the changes (uploads)
